metremade, run by a design duo who posts their beautiful patterns for free downloading. I have been driving my husband crazy by changing my desktop background every few days. I can't decide which is my favorite. Some patterns I love but they don't necessarily work for a desktop - you can't see the icons. But they would be perfect for other projects.
